Dear Parents,
It’s been another wonderful two weeks at Hazelwood and I can’t believe there is only a week to go before we break for half term.
There have been several highlights to share from the last fortnight. A firm favourite among pupils and staff was a visit from Karl Nova, poet and rapper, who engaged our children in workshops and inspired them to create their own poetry and raps. We also celebrated Mental Health Day and our Year 3 pupils enjoyed meeting up with their Year 7 buddies and getting to know each other over some mindfulness colouring.
The first inter house debate of the year was met with huge enthusiasm from all pupils in Years 3-8. The Houses debated whether it is better to be a teacher or a pupil at school. There were some very persuasive and creative arguments from our Upper School pupils about why it was better to be a teacher but, in the end, pupils voted overwhelmingly in favour of the fact that pupils do have more fun!
We were fortunate enough to have two of our Hazelwood parents give their time to share careers talks and run workshops for our Year 7 pupils. It was fascinating to learn about their career journeys and certainly got pupils thinking about the future. Some of our Year 8 pupils went to Tandridge Heights Care Home as part of their Outreach Elective. There was much chat, laughter and baking enjoyed by all!
Our Year 8 pantomime is being performed next week. The pupils have been working so hard and the set and costumes look amazing. Please come along and show your support by attending one of the performances on 18th or 19th October at 7pm. Free tickets are available from the school office.
Finally, we held a very successful Open Morning for our Year 7 & 8 entry today. It is always a proud moment to share with parents all the amazing lessons that our Year 7 & 8 pupils experience, especially their electives such as AI, politics, robotics and lifesaving.
Best wishes for a restful weekend,
Lindie
