The Nutshell

Dear Parents,

Welcome back!

I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic, restful summer. It has been wonderful to see your children arrive back full of energy and enthusiasm for a new year of learning. An especially warm welcome to our new starters and their families joining the Hazelwood community; I am confident you will settle in very quickly to life in our amazing school.

The sun was definitely out to greet us on our first week back with temperatures soaring. The children coped very well in the heat, and the ice lollies on both sites helped to cool everyone down!

We are delighted to share with you that Hazelwood School passed the latest ISI Inspection Report held in June. The quality and standards of the Early Years Foundation Stage were judged to be Outstanding in every category.

Needless to say, as a School, we are incredibly proud of the report and all the positive comments that the inspectors made. The full report can be found on our website but here are just a few of the many comments made about the outstanding provision our youngest pupils have access to:

‘Each child’s needs are thoroughly met through the provision of high-quality care and curriculum practices.’ ‘Children learn important values in Nursery. They are extremely respectful of each other.’ ‘The enabling environment ensures children enjoy their learning and make excellent progress.’

There have already been some significant highlights during our first weeks of the new academic year. Year 2 enjoyed a delicious chocolate day. The introduction of the Active Planet topic proved a huge hit with our Year 4 children and it was great to see Year 5 making excellent use of the VR headsets in their new module on Earth and Space.

We have already enjoyed sporting successes in our hockey and football fixtures and tournaments; congratulations to all those that participated. Years 7 and 8 enjoyed their various walking expeditions and camp outs last Friday. The inaugural Hazelwood prize for ‘Noisiest on-site camp out in history’ is emphatically awarded to Year 7; there is no doubt that their singing would have been heard some distance away! We know that the children will always remember these special bonding experiences.

We are looking forward to hosting two open mornings this term:

  • Year 7 & 8 on Friday 13th October 9:30 - 12pm.
  • Whole School on Friday 17th November 9:30 - 12pm

Please keep a look out for the events hosted by the HPA this term as we look forward to enjoying the opportunities to bring the whole school community together, in particular to see which year group will claim the coveted Quiz Master prize this year! Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend.

Best wishes

Lindie
