The Nutshell

Dear Parents,

The atmosphere outside is filled with a festive feel as we prepare for the arrival of our families for the annual picnic concert. The children are humming ABBA medleys after this morning's rehearsal. This event is an allinclusive, fun, and light-hearted concert for our young music enthusiasts. Music will be performed from Taylor Swift to ELO, Bobby McFerrin to ABBA and Matilda. The evening promises foot-tapping entertainment for everyone. The visit from the inspectors last week gave us the opportunity to showcase everything that we are incredibly proud of at Hazelwood. Thank you to those who took part in the questionnaires that we sent out on behalf of the inspection team. The children and staff across both sites were brilliant throughout the process, and I cannot thank them enough for their contributions during those few days. The inspection reports will be with us over the summer, at which point we will be in a position to share the outcomes with you.

I am delighted that our recent Sports Day for Year 3-8 students at K2 Crawley was such a tremendous success. The event was a resounding triumph, highlighted by an impressive 7 existing school records broken and with new events throughout the day, several new records were set! I would like to congratulate Mrs. Moon and her team for their exceptional organisational skills in making Sports Day such a memorable and enjoyable experience for all participants. Furthermore, I want to thank our staff and pupils for their efforts and achievements during the event. It is truly a testament to their commitment and enthusiasm.

Looking ahead to the next academic year, we will be returning to the Hazelwood site for both Prize Giving and Sports Day, which are scheduled to take place on the same day. This arrangement aims to accommodate our busy working parents, allowing them to take only one day off from their demanding schedules whilst also creating an action packed day for our community to come together. However, we all enjoyed seeing our athletes enjoy the facility, and I am sure we will explore opportunities to enhance our athletes' training experiences by utilising the facilities at K2 during the summer term in the future. Watch this space!

At the end of this term, we will be saying goodbye to our School Counsellor, Nicky Stewart. After nearly ten years of dedicated service at Hazelwood, Nicky has made the decision to focus solely on her private practice. We will truly miss her presence and wish her every success in her future endeavours. Nicky is currently assisting us in the process of appointing a suitable replacement, and she will continue to work remotely with some members of the leadership team next year, ensuring a seamless transition and allowing us to continue benefiting from her expertise.

Lastly, I am delighted to share the news of Mr. Will Fagg's appointment as our new Deputy Head (Prep). I am certain you will join me in congratulating him and wishing him every success in his new role.

Today's Nutshell reflects the abundance of activities and accomplishments that have taken place over the last 10 days. I hope you enjoy the glimpse into the children's experiences across the age groups, from Perspectives week photos to various performances, dance shows, gymnastic displays, and much more.

I look forward to the opportunity to meet many parents next week; do look out for the Art, DT and Graphics exhibition in the TOSH if you are on site for an event!

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend.

Best wishes,

Lindie
