Dear Parents,
The buzz and heat around the Hazelwood sight over the last few weeks has been incredibly special. Not just because of the exceptionally warm weather we have been enjoying recently but because the last part of the summer term is always one of the most exciting times of the academic year, and this year feels no different.
The Year 8s concluded their exams last week and have since enjoyed an array of treats, opportunities and experiences. It has been wonderful to see them relax and unwind after all their hard work. The traditional Hazelwood ice cream van and games on the Head’s lawn were enjoyed by all. The Year 8 residential trip to Rome and Sorrento was a huge success and, whilst there are some very tired faces in school today (the teachers more than the children!), I know that a wonderful time was had by all. The children behaved brilliantly and all staff commented on what a credit they were to Hazelwood.
As always, I am particularly delighted to see the sporting successes that our children have enjoyed recently. The cricket, athletics and swimming reports at the back of this Nutshell edition are a joy to read. It is fantastic to hear about our children’s achievements across such a breadth of sports and abilities. It truly does support our vision that ‘sport should be enjoyed by all’ at Hazelwood.
At the time of writing, the Year 4s are on their way back from an action-packed week at Hindleap Warren and Year 6 also enjoyed a royal trip out to Hampton Court Palace this week. Year 2 performed their play with such confidence and conviction to their parents this week and the theatre was transformed into a wildflower garden, thanks to Mrs Housego’s incredible, creative backdrop and scenery.
Next week, our much anticipated “Perspectives Week” comes to a head with the Hazelwood Education Showcase taking place on Friday 23rd June . Parents of children in Years 1-7 have been invited into school as their 'School in Action' day to see what children and staff have been working so hard on. It is set to be an inspiring day, full of creativity, passion, courage and innovation. We look forward to celebrating all this work with you in our next edition of Nutshell.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Best Wishes,
Lindie
