Hazelwood Values
At Hazelwood, compassion, courage and respect guide everything we do. These values shape how we treat one another, how we approach challenges and how we grow as a community.
They underpin our expectations for relationships, conduct and personal development, creating a community where pupils feel safe to take risks in their learning, try new things and look out for those around them.
Our commitment to inspiring young people to flourish, dating back to our foundation in 1890, remains steadfast.
Developing Every Individual
We believe in the uniqueness and potential of every pupil. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, strong pastoral care and a clear focus on wellbeing, we support pupils to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
Our approach is deliberately adaptive, recognising that children learn in different ways and at different paces. We place equal importance on challenge and support, ensuring that all pupils, including those with additional needs, are able to access learning and make progress.
We want every child to leave Hazelwood as a confident, thoughtful and capable individual, ready for the next stage of their education and life beyond school.

The Hazelwood Approach
Our wheel is a visual reminder of the importance of being people centred, where the wellbeing of pupils, staff and every member of our community, is our priority.
We use adaptive approaches to celebrate the uniqueness of every child, harness AI for personalised learning and connect lessons and learning to real-world relevance.
Our flexible classrooms empower pupils with choice and self-advocacy, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.
These strands of the wheel develop and encourage critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and agency. Together, these elements ensure a happy, nurturing and dynamic school experience.
Our Aims
At Hazelwood, our aim is to inspire young people with confidence, creativity and compassion through learning that is ambitious, adaptive and connected to the real world. Guided by the Hazelwood Learning Wheel, we place wellbeing, inclusion and high expectations at the centre of school life, ensuring that every pupil feels known, supported and challenged.
