The House System
From Year 1 upwards, all pupils at Hazelwood belong to one of four school houses - Baily, Parry, Dowling and Irving. Named after past Head Teachers and the school's founders, the children come together in their houses at fortnightly House Meeting, to compete in the Inter House Sports, Debating, Music and Eco Challenges and to earn House Points for great work and excellent behaviour.
Points make prizes and there is an array of silverware which is keenly contested for each term and over the course of the year. Each house has Heads of House chosen by the teachers from amongst the Year 8 pupils.
The house system is an ideal way for the school community to mix across the years and for everyone to share talents, enthusiasm and energies for the collective glory of their individual houses. The summer term Sports Day trophy is perhaps the most keenly contested of all Inter House competitions.
