Art at Hazelwood School
Key Stage One
The children are encouraged to foster an inventive and lively attitude to all aspects of art. We aim to allow each child to express creative ideas using a variety of techniques and to experiment with a range of materials. Activities involve observational drawing, creative composition, printing and collage. They will experience many different types of media – paint, clay, pastels, inks etc. and take part in a diverse range of activities from printing, observational drawing through to sewing.
Key Stages 2 and 3
The Art room at Hazelwood is an extremely creative, productive, uplifting place to be. This stimulating environment and the range of displays around the school, reflect the children's enjoyment and enthusiasm of the subject.
In Year 3 a wide variety of multi media skills are introduced and by the end of Year 4 techniques in painting, collage, printing and clay modelling are developed. During the years that follow, children have to opportunity to extend their pottery, textiles, design and photography.
Trips to galleries and gardens are encouraged, as are visits from artists and children have the luxury of working outside in our beautiful, inspiring environment.
The culmination of the art year at Hazelwood is the annual Open Day Exhibition in June, where the young artists and their parents can marvel at a huge range of creations from silk painting to sculpture.
