Parents' Association

The Hazelwood Parents’ Association (HPA) is a longstanding and energetic part of the school community. With a number of varied events throughout the year and a team of volunteer parents pulling it together, it helps raise several thousand pounds annually to support the school by providing additional facilities for the benefit of all the children from the Nursery and Early Years Foundation Stage through to Year 8.

We have a team of parents supported by school staff who organise events but we are always looking for more people to help. If you would like to come on board or attend a meeting, please contact the Chair, Sasha Latter, sasha@mitchellstephenson.com.  Even if you feel that you cannot commit to being on the committee, please do get in touch with any offer of help or ideas for events or sponsorship.  We would love to hear from you!

HPA Committee

The Committee holds its meetings usually twice a term in the evening.  Ad hoc meetings relating to specific events also take place and much communication and activity takes place outside meetings.  Any volunteer can therefore become involved according to the time which they wish to give.  This is a great way to meet other parents and become more involved in doing something worthwhile for the children whilst having fun.

HPA Fundraising

The money raised by the HPA has been given towards a number of projects and, most recently, these have included:
  • Playground and outdoor learning equipment at the Nursery and Early Years, Chestnut and Hazelwood
  • Gazebo for sports and other school events
  • New curtains and blinds for the Paterson Hall at the Nursery and Early Years site
  • Hazelwood Library donation to purchase new books
  • A classroom in the trees - a treehouse for the Hazelwood site
In previous years, further examples have included a new dance studio, theatre equipment, cricket nets, minibuses and help towards refurbishing the swimming pool.

HPA Charitable Donations

In 2015, to mark Hazelwood’s 125th anniversary, the school launched The Community Fund and this will be a major beneficiary of the school’s charitable fundraising activities for the foreseeable future. In time, local community organisations will be invited to apply to the fund for small grants to support their own programme of events, and in particular those with an educational bias. The Community Fund will be a way of saying 'Thank you' to the communities of Oxted, Limpsfield and surrounding areas for their support over the school's 125 year history and of looking forward to new and exciting chapters in all our histories.

From time to time donations have been made to other local charities. For example, Harvest Festival food donations were given to the Caterham Food Bank: http://caterham.foodbank.org.uk
