Welcome to Hazelwood School
Hazelwood School is an independent coeducational school set amongst 25 acres of glorious woodlands on the Surrey Kent border. Established in 1890 the school is vibrant and thriving, valuing the traditions of the past and embracing the best of modern education.
In September 2009 the school merged with Laverock to create a second green site, in the middle of Oxted. This site houses The Larks Nursery and our Reception children, combining the Early Years Foundation Stage successfully in one location.
Every child is unique and choosing the right school for your child is a complex process. Some parents are looking for sporting opportunities, others for music or drama, some are looking at academic achievement, others at pastoral care. At Hazelwood we recognise that all of these factors will play an enormous part in your child’s development. If the balance is right your child will enjoy school and thrive on the opportunities that we offer to them.
I hope that you will visit the school and meet our children and staff. The atmosphere within the school is, I feel, unique. The pupils are quite special; they have a real sense of pride for their school. They are secure, happy and willing to have a go. Independence and curiosity are encouraged and nurtured, and the children who leave us at thirteen are ready for the new opportunities and challenges that they will face at their secondary schools. In 2012 our pupils were rewarded with 15 fabulous scholarships with our leavers heading off to a wide variety of first choice Senior Schools including Benenden, Worth, Sevenoaks, Hurst, Trinity, Kings Canterbury, Whitgift, Caterham and Woldingham.
This year we have rewritten our school's aims into the thereby making them more meaningful, dynamic and accountable to all our staff, children and parents. We are all excited by their purpose and the opportunity that they offer for every member of our school to contribute to, and gain from, a growing and successful community.
I am delighted to be leading the school, I love being part of the school community as do my own children. I hope that I will have the opportunity to welcome you to the school, to share my passion for the education we can offer and to talk about your child and what is right for them.
