Welcome to Hazelwood School
Hazelwood School is an independent coeducational school set amongst 25 acres of glorious woodlands on the Surrey Kent border. Established in 1890 the school is vibrant and thriving, valuing the traditions of the past and embracing the best of modern education.
In September 2009 the school merged with Laverock to create a second green site, in the middle of Oxted. This site houses the school's Nursery and our Reception children, combining the Early Years Foundation Stage successfully in one location.
Every child is unique and choosing the right school for your child is a complex process. Some parents are looking for sporting opportunities, others for music or drama. Some are looking at academic achievement, others at pastoral care. At Hazelwood we recognise that all of these factors will play an enormous part in your child’s development. If the balance is right, your child will enjoy school and thrive on the opportunities that we offer to them.
The atmosphere within the school is, I feel, quite remarkable. The pupils are quite special; they have a real sense of pride for their school. They are secure, happy and willing to have a go. Independence and curiosity are encouraged and nurtured, and the children who leave us at thirteen are ready for the new opportunities and challenges that they will face at their secondary schools. In 2019 our pupils were rewarded with places at a wide variety of first choice Senior Schools including Ardingly, Reigate Grammar, Caterham, Hurstpierpoint, Tonbridge, Brighton College, Woldingham, Lingfield College, Sevenoaks, Battle Abbey, Kent College and Trinity.
Do please come and visit us and see firsthand what we are all about. We are a school where childhood is valued for as long as possible with traditional family values at the core of our care. We have a rich tradition and history with a forward looking educational approach and we always remain true to the soul of the school, our pupils.
I am excited about the future of the school. In September 2018 we opened our Innovations Space, The B.O.X. which gives teachers and pupils access to an expansive and limitless way of teaching and learning. Fusing creativity with the latest technology, the B.O.X. will develop a whole new set of skills and confidences which will stand our pupils in the greatest of steads as they continue their journeys through education, employment and life.
I am passionate about Hazelwood School and all that it stands for. I am proud to lead the School and hope that I will have the opportunity to discuss with you your child, their unique needs and how we can successfully work together during the course of your child's exciting Prep School adventure.
