Welcome to Hazelwood School
Hazelwood School is an independent coeducational school set amongst 25 acres of glorious woodlands on the Surrey Kent border. Established in 1890 the school is vibrant and thriving, valuing the traditions of the past and embracing the best of modern education.
In September 2009 the school merged with Laverock to create a second green site, in the middle of Oxted. This site houses the school's Nursery and our Reception children, combining the Early Years Foundation Stage successfully in one location.
Every child is unique and choosing the right school for your child is a complex process. Some parents are looking for sporting opportunities, others for music or drama. Some are looking at academic achievement, others at pastoral care. At Hazelwood we recognise that all of these factors will play an enormous part in your child’s development. If the balance is right, your child will enjoy school and thrive on the opportunities that we offer to them.
The atmosphere within the school is, I feel, quite remarkable. The pupils are very special; they have a real sense of pride for their school. They are secure, happy and willing to have a go. Independence and curiosity are encouraged and nurtured, and the children who leave us at thirteen are ready for the new opportunities and challenges that they will face at their secondary schools. In 2022 our pupils were rewarded with places at a wide variety of first choice Senior Schools including Ardingly, Caterham, Hurstpierpoint, Cranleigh, Brighton College, Woldingham, Lingfield College, Sevenoaks, Bedes, Kent College and Worth.

I am excited about the future of the school. In September 2018 we opened our Innovations Space, The BOX which gives teachers and pupils access to an expansive and limitless way of teaching and learning. Fusing creativity with the latest technology, the BOX will develop a whole new set of skills and confidences which will stand our pupils in the greatest of steads as they continue their journeys through education, employment and life. We did not prepare ourselves for the impact that The BOX would have on our pupils' confidence and approach to learning and were delighted to have our spirit of invention recognised by a 2019 i25 top five finish in the prestigious awards. In 2018, we opened the Outside BOX, complete with an outdoor classroom, 7 pods for learning in smaller groups and a 30 foot slide! It truly is an Outdoor Learning environment like no other with a stunning view to match! Most recently we opened our all-weather Astro. An amazing addition to our sporting offering at Hazelwood, allowing children to enjoy sport all year round, no matter what the weather.
I am passionate about Hazelwood School and all that it stands for. I am proud to lead the School and hope that I will have the opportunity to discuss with you your child, their unique needs and how we can successfully work together during the course of your child's exciting Prep School adventure. Do please come and visit us and see firsthand what we are all about. We are a school where childhood is valued for as long as possible with traditional family values at the core of our care. We have a rich tradition and history with a forward looking educational approach and we always remain true to the soul of the school, our pupils.
