  • NACE Challenge Award Hazelwood is the only school in the area to have been given this very prestigious award. It recognises the quality of our curriculum provision for our more able, gifted and talented pupils.
  • Broad and Innovative Curriculum In addition to satisfying the requirements of the National Curriculum, Hazelwood offers many more opportunities to learn and explore.Using the best of resources, we combine the latest teaching techniques with our traditional work ethic.  Philosophy for Children and Forest Skills feature within the pupils' timetables.

  • Highest Quality Teaching Your child will be taught throughout his or her time at Hazelwood, from Oak to Year 8, by qualified, experienced teachers, resulting in more effective learning and retention. From Year 6, all subjects are taught by advanced skills specialists.
  • Use of Technology With interactive screens in all classrooms and a spacious, state of the art ICT suite, Hazelwood makes the most of these powerful tools to strengthen and improve academic skills. Children from Year 1 receive specialist teaching in coding and basic programming.  From January 2014 ipads were introduced with the Upper School children being given a one-to-one device for their exclusive use at home and at school. There are also two pods of ipads for other year groups to use in their classrooms.  In September 2018, the school opened its Innovations Space, The B.O.X. an environment which fuses the innate creativity of children with the latest technological advances including virtual reality, interactive floor projection, robotics and googlejamboards.

  • Superb Facilities We offer not only modern, well equipped classrooms but science and technology labs, a theatre, sound proofed individual music rooms, a dance studio, an indoor swimming pool, an art studio with a kiln, all weather tennis and netball courts, a sports hall and extensive playing fields.  In June 2014 we opened our amazing classroom in the trees followed two years later by the magnificent Baily Building with its 450 seat auditorium, Music Room, Art Room and small Food Tech Kitchen.  The doors open to our agile learning space, The B.O.X. from September 2018.

  • Trips and Travel In order to expand and enrich learning, children are offered the opportunity to participate in a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom.  We offer a residential trip from Year 3 and even the Year 2 children enjoy their annual Dinosnore sleepover.
  • Small Class Sizes Significant advantages are gained when children are taught in smaller class sizes with the focused attentions (Oak to Year 5) of a dedicated teacher and teaching assistants.
  • Close Monitoring of your Child's Progress Half term assessments of effort and attainment as well as comprehensive reports at the end of each year help us effectively to share how your child is progressing with you. All children are continuously monitored and tracked.  Our teachers can make themselves available to discuss your child with you at any time during the term.
  • Results As our success record in securing scholarships and places at senior schools shows, Hazelwood enjoys a reputation for meeting consistently high standards not only academically but in music, drama, art, design technology and sport.
