Child Health. PLEASE NOTE THAT HAZELWOOD SCHOOL IS NUT FREE. No products containing Nuts or Nut oil maybe brought in to School.
Children’s welfare is a high priority at Hazelwood, and we pride ourselves on the excellent reputation of our health care. Our permanent Matron who lives on the School premises has established a strong rapport with both parents and children.
Our 1st Aid policy details the precise nature of procedures and responsibilities, and this is reviewed by both the School’s management and the Governors from time to time. All our staff receive some 1st Aid training, but we have a number of designated “1st Aiders” in all major departments of the School who have attended the full 1st Aid at Work course.
On arrival at Hazelwood, we ask parents to complete a Health and Consent form this information is treated with utmost confidence and discretion, but it is essential we are aware of all medical conditions, allergies and treatment programmes if we are to apply accurate judgement to a child’s condition. In that vein, we ask to be kept up to date with all ongoing or new medical issues. We encourage parents to maintain a regular contact with Matron in order to provide the best possible care for children, and this particularly is the case for those children requiring special treatment on a regular basis.
Should a child become ill or suffer an accident during the School day, Matron would assess the situation to apply appropriate care. Minor incidents, within the bounds of Matron’s competence, are treated in School. More serious cases require either the calling out of professional medical assistance or taking the patient to the Health Centre in Oxted or to the nearest hospital (East Surrey in Redhill). Whether treatment is required in or out of School, every attempt is made to contact parents with urgency, and we ask that contact numbers or alternative NOK details are made available, particularly when they change, to the School Office.
For further information, or should you wish to discuss any medical issue relating to your child in confidence, please call Matron on 01883-712194.
