Music
Hazelwood has a fine tradition of music, both instrumental and choral. The facilities at the school are outstanding, with a large music room, music tuition and practice rooms, and a Chapel with a magnificent organ, all attached to the newly built Centenary Theatre. The facilities give every pupil the opportunity to develop their powers of musical expression.
Aside from class music, pupils have the opportunity to take individual music lessons with specialists at the school. The pupils have one 30 minute lesson a week and may be entered for external examinations such as the Associated Board. Pupils can then further develop these skills in the various performing groups and the junior and senior orchestra. Both groups and soloists are given the opportunity to perform in the numerous school concerts throughout the year, of which Hazelwood’s annual music competition is a definite highlight.
Hazelwood also has three choirs that sing not only in the Chapel, but also at concerts and recitals in the Centenary Theatre and - rather excitingly - as visiting performers at a wide variety of venues.
