French
French at Hazelwood begins from Year 4 where the emphasis is on oral communication. In this environment the children can converse with confidence and fluency, using an authentic French accent and intonation, all delivered by native French speakers. The result is an ability to communicate that is the envy of most adults!
Later in the course the remaining elements of listening and reading are taught, together with written French. The department has planned a ‘French Day’ with activities that reflect the flavour of French culture, including - of course - the renowned Cuisine Française. There are also several opportunities for visits abroad, including a residential course in a French château and a one-day excursion to Calais and Boulogne. The teaching at Hazelwood really captures I’essence de vie française.
