Homework
Homework is set on a daily basis from Year 3 onwards. However, some work – usually reading or simple maths work – is set during the Chestnut years. For Years 3 and 4, we expect one or two subjects to be taken per night for about twenty minutes duration each.
In Year 5, we expect two subjects to be taken per night, and in Year 6 there is one day in the week where three subjects are set, making a total workload expectation of about an hour. In Years 7 and 8 more evenings have three subjects set. As pupils move towards taking their entry exams, more work is required out of supervised prep time. In all age groups homework is not set on Wednesdays.
Pupils are supplied with a homework notebook in which they are expected to record prep tasks as set, to ensure clarity for themselves and to help inform parents. Parents are asked to sign the diary on a daily basis to aid communication and to help refine the prep system. The homework notebook can be used to communicate any message to school.
If children stay for Tea and Prep they should be able to complete most of their prep at school. If any problems arise regarding homework please do contact the subject teacher concerned. Alternatively the Form teacher or Director of Studies can be contacted.
