How to Apply
We are thrilled that you are interested in applying to Hazelwood School here are the stages to entry:
- Introducing ourselves - the Prospectus
Our Prospectus provides a good insight into the aims and ethos of the School. If you would like to ensure there is a place for your child before taking your enquiries further, please call the Registrar, Jenny Munns, on 01883 712 194. - Come and see the School
To get to know us properly, we recommend you tour the School and discuss your child's needs and aspirations with the Headmaster, Roger McDuff, and the Head of the Pre-Prep, Lynn Weeks. Please call Registrar, Jenny Munns on 01883 712 194 for an appointment. - Registering, and being assured of a place
If you decide that you would like your child to join us at Hazelwood, it is then necessary to register. To do so, complete the Entry Form at the back of the Prospectus (or available from the School Office) and return it along with the £30 Registration Fee. - Confirming your place
A year before your child is due to join Hazelwood, a Confirmation Deposit of £350 will be requested to confirm the place (subject to assessment). The School holds this sum until your child's final term, when it is offset against any extra charges which may have been incurred at that time, and after which any outstanding credit will be returned to you. - Induction before taking up your place
During the term before joining, your child will be invited to come in to School. This is an important opportunity to meet his or her new classmates, and generally feel more familiar with the school environment. This helps ensure that starting at Hazelwood is a happy, secure experience, and not an intimidating one. - Parents
As parents, you will also be able to meet key teaching staff. Your future Hazelwood Parent's Association Form Representative will invite you to a pre-term 'get together' for children and parents. - Joining the School - Day One
Every effort is made to make the first day enjoyable and relaxed. Staff always pay particular attention to new pupils and, when appropriate, a current pupil will be assigned as a guardian and helper for the first few days. - Uniform
Children wear uniform from the Reception Class (age 4) onwards. This is supplied from the Hazelwood School Shop, and a Uniform and Price List are always available from the School Office. - Entry age
Entry to the School is at the age of 2½. We also have entry points at the age of 3 and 7, but a child can join at any time in the school year if there is a space. We are non-selective at Nursery level but from age 4 onwards there is a simple assessement. For entry to the main Prep School your child would be invited to be assessed in Maths and English, to show that he or she has attained standards equivalent to Level 2 in the Key Stage 1 SATS. A report from your child's current school is also requested.
